It’s Labor Day in America! You know what that means? It means I have a day off, which I could spend writing stuff and spending time with my family. In fact, I’m probably outside my home right now; we plan to eat pancakes at IHOP (for the first time) and shop for some clothes that I can use for the company “Dress Like A Superhero/Bay Decoration” event at work.
I believe I’ve mentioned how much I love my job.
Of course, part of this day will be dedicated to contemplating what this day means for the people we work with on the other side of the ocean. Today, they’re celebrating their contributions to their country; especially important these days, I understand, given the struggles the US have gone through over the last few years. Frankly, I think the best way to honor the honest American workers is to give them decent salaries THAT THEY CAN USE TO BUY STUFF, THUS PROPERLY STIMULATING THEIR ECONOMY. You know, instead of most of the money going into the pockets of executives and high-level managers.
I admit that I don’t know the whole story and that my opinion is slightly (all right, EXTREMELY) colored by what’s happening to our taxes here–a different issue altogether–and that I may be overreacting. I invite other people to explain those things to me here.
I really should stop thinking about this stuff, because I don’t handle them well. You know what I think I should focus on instead? Focus on the resumption of Forty Days of Dating tomorrow. You have no idea how much I miss that particular distraction. I’m really looking forward to how that particular experiment will end.
