Breathing Is an Act of Rebellion

Whenever it feels like the life you have to live is bearing down on you with the weight of the world’s myriad rules and expectations, breathing is an act of rebellion.

One inhale. One exhale.

You may face spit and sweat and pain and disdain and disappointments in the roles you have been appointed, but remember this: you can always breathe. It is an act of rebellion.

One inhale. One exhale.

Others may disagree. They may come with guns and laws and spreadsheets, justifying their claim to your air. But never forget: they can’t stop you. Breathing is an act of rebellion.

One inhale. One exhale.

When you breathe, a part of you becomes a part of them, becomes a part of you; and it makes them afraid. Their fear is not your burden to take. Remind them of your sameness; breathe in rebellion.

One inhale. One exhale.

When you live as yourself, then you will have won. When you go on, you will have won, and—even if they manage to extinguish, deliver anguish—breathe until the very last. Rebel. Become revelation.

It takes just one inhale, one exhale.
