I envy cats. They don’t give a damn and can basically sleep on anything. Right now, I only FEEL like I can sleep on anything. And sadly, I give a damn about people – which is why I’m trying to stay awake.
It’s one of THOSE days. You know, the kind that flows like molasses but burns sharply like the spicy food you ate last night trying to escape your body at exactly the wrong time? Yeah. It’s like that. Not necessarily bad (your mileage may vary, though), but not very comfortable either. I have a pounding headache, I need another massage, and I’ve been forgetting to do things since 10 am; still, I have this crazy urge to go overtime today because I’m pretty sure stuff needs to get done (it’s just that we can’t start working on it right now because TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES WHYWHYWHY).
I wasn’t even supposed to have a post today. Yet here I am \o/
So what do I do with this time?
Why, plug a blog!
Check out Tanuki Doodles by my IRL friend (what? I have non-imaginary/non-virtual friends!) K. Incidentally, it’s her birthday today – one of the few shining, shimmering, splendid things about this day – so I think you should visit her blog. In fact, I think you should visit her blog as often as you can because she does great work and deserves support. Heck, she’s even doing an artwork-a-day thing right now, so I’m willing to bet that it’s more updated than mine.
What I’m saying is: mosey on over there to see really fun art. She takes commissions, by the way; so if you like her style and have money…*wink*
It will certainly make me feel much better about today. 😀
It’s my mom’s birthday! Happy birthday, nerd who spawned me! Yes, I know we already celebrated this yesterday; that doesn’t change the fact that her birthday is TODAY, though.
I may not talk about her as much as I do my dad on this blog (because I know she stalks it and I’m a little embarrassed), but she really is worth talking about. See, what I haven’t really made clear here is that the reason why I’m so weird is not just because my Dad is an Elder Geek – it’s because my mom is a Major Nerd too. Take, for example, why we couldn’t full-on celebrate her birthday today: it’s because she has work to do. Work that lets her think. Work that lets her dissect marketing research so she can help clients figure out marketing opportunities and advertising strategies. Work that has her hogging the dining table outside of mealtimes so she and my sister can obsess over information, lots and lots of information. My mom is working today because her work gives her an excuse to STUDY. She’s probably the reason why I found Literary Theory amazing – I inherited part of that nerd gene.
Might I also note that her nerdiness is part of why she’s so AWESOME at making PowerPoint presentations? And that she’s probably the most stylish nerd I know? 😀
Oh, boy! I’m celebrating my 29th birthday today – Happy Birthday to me! 🙂 And how am I going to celebrate it?
Nah, just kidding. Today, I’m going to bring joy to my inner writer by going on a brief shopping spree – the AMAZING Jie bought me a coupon for Scribe, which allows me to get Php600 worth of stuff at the shop’s Shangri-La Mall branch.
On top of that, I will be FORCING myself to do more non-work writing for this week. And for that, I need the help of other people.
GIVE ME A WRITING PROMPT. Give me a plot, an idea, or a photo and I will try to write 100 words of fiction for it. If needed, I’ll even use Written? Kitten! to motivate myself. Just comment below, and I will respond to it as soon as I can with a 100-word story (hey, it might go a little over 100 words). Remember, I will only work on suggestions that come in for this week.
This is going to be the best birthday week ever. 🙂
It’s my brother Leo’s birthday! Happy birthday, my Irish twin!
Funny, science-y, and a well of seemingly rational patience (I’m his older sister; I know better), I’d like to posit that my brother is the sanest Gemini I know. That isn’t to say he’s completely sane. There was a point in his childhood during which I was pretty sure that he’d turn out to be some sort of mad scientist. Later on, I thought he might grow up to be Dr. Gregory House. I was wrong on both counts – he became an editor/administrator for some online marketing company, who also happens to be taking up a master’s degree in business economics. This, after years of going to a science high school and a scholarship for taking up molecular biology in college. Dare I mention that he’s shown high aptitude for science, economics, AND writing?
He also sings very well, and is creative in the best and most surprising ways. Dad once had to point out (in front of dozens of people), after we siblings were introduced as “the scientist and the two creative girls”) that ALL three of us are creative. He’s right. Just as mom is right to be ridiculously proud of this guy from day 1. Heck, we’re all proud of him.
Happy birthday, Leo! Good luck on the test (yes, he has a test today)! And eat all the things (you’re getting thin again!
